Frequently Asked Questions

What is Go Alliance?

Go Alliance is a consortium of southern states that work together to increase the number of students who complete high school and are ready for college and careers.

I want to start a campaign. How can I get started?

First, see if your state is a member of Go Alliance. If so, contact your state’s representative and ask him/her for further information on the college outreach activity in your state. If you are not a member of Go Alliance, you can still review the helpful information and materials found at our College Access Marketing website.

What is the overall strategy--How does Go Alliance work?

Our strategy is sharing and co-developing college access marketing campaign resources and best practices. Member states jointly develop or share college access marketing materials (such as radio and television spots, posters, brochures, logos, Web materials, and research) across state lines. Television spots, for example, have been reused in multiple states, but each time they are reused they are “re-voiced” so as to fit specific target groups or message themes. Sharing resources in this manner significantly reduces the cost and time associated with large-scale marketing campaigns.

Member states also help one another by sharing ideas about programs that reach students in direct ways. For example, one state refocused high-school counseling offices into college-preparation centers and “branded” them with the logo and slogan of the statewide campaign. Two other states have adopted the idea.

How is Go Alliance funded?

Go Alliance is a membership-based organization that is sponsored by ACT, Inc., the College Board. Go Alliance has also partnered with the Southern Governor’s Association on an initiative that is supported by a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

How can my state or organization become a member?

The unit of membership for Go Alliance is states. Resources are made available to states through their official Go Alliance representatives and can be used for not-for-profit educational purposes only. If you would like more information on becoming a member, please contact Joan Lord at joan.lord@sreb.org.
